In weiter Ferne, so nah!

Faraway, So Close! won the jury prize at Cannes in 1993. It is the sequel to Wim WendersWings of Desire -or Der Himmel über Berlin (The Sky over Berlin)- which we watched in class this year. Amazon customer reviews on the sequel bring me to this:

Do not forget to entertain strangers, for some people have entertained angels without knowing it. -Hebrews 13:2 (more…)

Park that car, drop that phone, sleep on the floor, dream about me…

Broken Social Scene
Today was such a good night. Even the day was a good night. Today was Olympic Island beginning with Raising the Fawn and J Mascis. Today was Feist. Today was Bloc Party (o my goodness Gordy’s 30 years old!). Tonight was Broken Social Scene. My vocal chords are close to torn. My calves hurt so much. Tonight was SO good. I’m glad. (more…)

TGC + Iorek

How long have I been waiting for this?
Read the book in grade 6… 1998-1999?
When did I get so fangirlishly obsessed?
Somewhere between grade 7 (waiting for The Amber Spyglass to be published)…
That would be 2000ish I guess.
Somewhere between grade 7 and grade 10 ~ 2003 when I became a sraffie…
I’ve been waiting a LONG time (SO EXCITED).
My prediction was Christmas 2009, maybe New Line can pull it off by 2007?
I hope it doesn’t suck. I’m SO EXCITED.
All the internet people here have read it;
Real life friends, check it out?

Lots of one-liners… like Val’s blog. =P

The Golden Compass, The Subtle Knife, and The Amber Spyglass, by Philip Pullman.

SO EXCITED. I think Iorek should be a little grittier ’cause he’s been in exile doing metal work and he’s not a shiny wannabe-human like Iofur.

L’optimisme retourne.

Optimism returns… not for any silly reason such as dy/dx Leibniz’s best of all possible worlds, because that kind of optimism isn’t true “things working out,” because Jacques the Anabaptist dies in the storm and better reasoning I don’t care for at the moment because I’m optimistic about something specific:

If Aric can find his friend Rosy and sell Annie’s ticket to her and if I can find “The Outsider” from the internet who is supposedly desperate for an Olympic Island ticket and sell Melly’s ticket to her, that’s stuff working out. And I always tell you it does. And while I’m not actually always right, ’cause shit happens, I think it just might work out this time.

And on the note of concerts, I’m still contemplating seeing Muse alone, but it’s now in the adventurous mood rather than the frustrated one.

Also Tiffy’s back in Toronto and we’re dimsumming tomorrow morning… by which I mean this morning because tomorrow is today. Yesterday Never Tomorrows but today does. =D

P.S. Louisa,
Jimmy says: in order to be a misogynist
Jimmy says: I would be required to know what that word means
Jimmy says: so there.
Jimmy says: i win.
Jimmy says: P.S. i dont’ hate women
