On the left is Jason Pipkin and on the right is a dude from Australia called Rich. I have no idea what their actual capacity is at Lush but they seem to be there all the time, often playing music or something. It was an open mic night and they kept playing perfect songs for a last night in Beijing. Other people went on stage and we were afraid they’d be crappy, but then they kept putting out perfect “last night” songs/kept on fueling the love for 90s. We (LML, MT, MZ, and I) were meant to go out for Thai food but cash was limited so we went to the local student hangout as usual and found even more of our group there (technically we already knew they were there). However, it was about seven of us (add EW and sisters AC and CC) who stayed out a bit longer for a hookah and some more feel-good sing along and then managed to stay up until 3am the day of our Beijing-departure trading photos between compact discs and the 2G Kingston USB drives we all purchased at various electronic outlets and hoped weren’t counterfeit. It was a good night.

Highlights included a number of songs I don’t know titles to, Closing Time by Semisonic, Wonderwall by Oasis (ever embedded in our minds as children of the 90s), and a Dutch girl sang Alanis Morissette’s Ironic accompanied by a cute mixed boy from Hong Kong on guitar.

Do I know nights where good music, sheesha, and friends have ever failed me? (scribbled from East London, 5 August in the early, early, early morning as TFH’s subletters A&M from India struggle to get through the front door)
