I DON’T WANT TO BE // A PROLOGUE TO HISTORY

I’m a consumer, but

There is something about a shiny red bike. It doesn’t even have to be shiny really. Biking on the wall around the city of Xi’an was really cool and the first bike ride in years. I’m an advocate of helmets, but it was my first time riding with my hair in the wind and it was a wonderful 13.7 km stretch. I would like to go to the Netherlands and study and hang out and bike around cities that have really funky and progressive and creative infrastructure (and architecture, featured in the New York Times magazine several weeks ago, on cities). I hope whenever I get to go, my imagination doesn’t let me down.

Gifties Yay!

I went to see Batman (good movie, great acting, but seriously loud) yesterday with the gifties. I hadn’t seen most of them yet, so it was nice. We went all the way to Scarborough Town Centre so it was kind of out of the way, but Aric gave me a ride so it was okay. By dinner, a hypothetical trip to Montreal with Sylvia and Nikhil had been planned, and even if it doesn’t work out, I still love making hypothetical travel plans with people. Also, Nikhil said something about coming by in the Fall too, so that’s cool. Tony started working with me today. It was nice to have someone to talk to. And just now, Heidi asked me about it, so maybe she’ll join too. Cooooooooooool. Heart gifties.

But I lost my phone and I’m sad about that because that Samsung phone has taken good care of me the last two years. I hope I can get my own phone number back. I’m sad about the random phone pics (including Romy dressed up like Snoop Dog) and phone numbers I’ve lost. Maybe the restaurant we had dinner at will find it and call me back. *fingers still crossed* Not totally optimistic though… :S

Closure?

I didn’t really get any closure when we moved out of the house I grew up in, it was the day I started work so I didn’t really participate in the move-out beyond packing my room into boxes. Today I went and it was disgusting and I really don’t want to go back again. My parents haven’t been taking care of it so it’s been broken into a couple times, and there is crap (actual) and feathers and the smell of no one caring all (i.e. flooding, rotting, and molding) over the place. We went today to rescue the last of the boxes from three years ago. I rescued some boxes of my school things; my sister’s diaries, photos, and screenplays; some children’s clothes; and I don’t know what else. It was eerie. There are plush toys we won’t be keeping because they’ve absorbed whatever’s in the air and memorabilia from when my sister was really into 90s alternative rock. I think most of my own and my brother’s personal effects were saved in the original move, but now the rest sits in a storage facility some way away because in a condo, you can’t accumulate junk. Most of those school things will need to be recycled anyways, no one needs my math notes from junior high.

It was kind of embarrassing when I went out to the driveway for a break. The front of our house still looks nice, but everyone else keeps their houses so clean and nice, it’s sad how our home has deteriorated. Even the next door (relatively new) neighbours are redoing their house (Mr. and Mrs. Hall’s flowers are all gone). The whole time my dad yelled. Ugh.

On a more note, we saw some neighbours across the street and went over to say hi. Their daughter that I used to walk home from school is all grown up and gave my mom a hug. My family is a non-hugging family and my mom was all wtfhuh? It was hilarious (in my head).

We’re supposed to meet and have bubble tea some time (bubble tea?).

I deleted the posts from my attempt-of-a-travel-blog and copied them here, since there were all of… four posts? I should delete the actual blog but the photos are saved there. Whatever.
