Today I got a lot of reading done.  Now to say the same for writing…

Weakling

Bah, I just got stuck inside my room and had to bang on the wall (and potentially wake up) Gina to open my door for me.  Being too weak to open my window is one thing but not being able to open my own door is ridiculous.  It happened two summers ago but that was in July and there was ridiuclous heat and weird air pressure.  This time around it’s quite humid but it’s September.  I need my door to shrink to its natural size.  And apparently I need to start weight training.  I’m not even healthy/disciplined enough to start cardio yet.  This is stupid.  I feel silly.

Earlier I almost shut myself in the bathroom (the door has also expanded in the heat, aie) too.

yum soup:

  • 2 sweet potatoes
  • a jar full of grilled red peppers (drain ‘em)
  • one onion or a few shallots
  • carrot, or you know, whatever, not neccessary
  • a dash of tomato paste
  • enough broth to cover, and then some more
  • more/less a half cup of cream
  • salt and pepper or whatever

chop up all the veggies into little pieces, put them in a pot with enough broth to cover, and then some more.  season, and cook on low-medium heat until mushy.  if you have one, use a hand blender to purée it.  i don’t have one, so i just wait ’til the veggies are as disintegrated as my patience will allow and then i go through it with a whisk.  to thin it out, i just stir in some milk or broth, and then add cream.  it’s sooooooooooooooooo good.  i think i had some version of this soup at the holt’s cafe on bloor in toronto but it had white wine and some more impressive stock/broth and no carrots or onions, but whatever, i’m both a student and ill.  easy easy soup, but i’m glad i prepared the veggies beforehand.  i’m a tad sick right now and now matter how good and probably nutritious and healing this soup is, i would not be in the mood to chop veggies (esp. not that onion) the way i’m feeling today.

i would’ve made congee but these ingredients were already ready (yay).  although congee is something i would be prepared to prepare in this state because it’s ridiculously easy:

  • rice (clean it!)
  • water, lots of it

cook on low heat all day or until desired level of mush is achieved.  salt to taste.  the end.
